How GeoFootball works

The basics

  • Five new football questions everyday. Takes 60 seconds to play.
  • Questions cover World Cups, famous stadiums, clubs and players.
  • For each football question, tap the spot on the map where you believe it happened.
  • The nearer your tap lands to the true spot, the better your shot.
  • Fresh questions arrive daily at midnight UTC.
  • Everyone plays the same five questions on the same day, so totals are directly comparable.

How to play

  • 1 Question = 1 Shot.
  • 5 Questions = 5 Shots = 1 shootout.
  • Game is for 1 shootout each day.
  • How your shots are scored
  • How far your tap lands from the true spot decides your result:
  • ≤100 km, GOAL.
  • ≤500 km, SAVED - the keeper got a hand to it.
  • Beyond 500 km, MISS.

  • Calculated distances are straight-line approximate values, rounded to the nearest kilometre.
  • Counting your shootout
  • Goals win. Level goals are split by total closeness - nearer taps win ties.
  • The max you can score is: five goals in five shots = 5/5. That is the perfect shootout.
  • Bonus, sharing and streak
  • Once you complete all questions, you get a bonus 100x multiplier.
  • Your goals x 100 = Final score (max 500). You can share your score card with your friends and challenge them.
  • Play daily to maintain your streak.

Colours and dots

  • The dot colour shows what that shot scored.
  • Green - GOAL
  • Yellow - SAVED
  • Grey - MISS

Streaks

  • Your streak tracks consecutive 7 days played.
  • Miss a day and it drops back to zero.

The leaderboard

  • You see the day's top 50 players.
  • Your own row stays pinned at the top even when you sit outside the top 50.
  • When two players would share a name, the second gets a number on the end (for example Mark, Mark2).

Your profile

  • Open your profile in menu for a 7-day played details of your daily totals.
  • Your profile shows total games played, best score, streak and last 7 days played games.

Tips

  • Pinch to zoom and drag to pan around the map.
  • A single tap locks in your guess. There is no submit button.
  • Changed your mind mid-tap? Drag a little before lifting your finger. Tiny slides count as a pan, not a guess.
  • Refresh halfway through if you must. Your round is saved.

Inspiration

  • GeoFootball is heavily inspired by MapTap, a daily geography game we love. Go play it too.
